Fringing the Andaman sea, Koyao Bay Pavilions opens directly onto the spectacular panorama of Bileh?s islands: the craggy limestone formations rise from the horizon, inviting to further sea adventures and island discovery.

The beach itself extend in front of the villas, just by the resort's gardens. It is continued up north by cliffs covered by rain forest. Quiet and secluded, well preserved and kept as wild as originally, the beach is the realm of Sea Eagles, Hornbills (Kalao birds), Egrets and many other birds species.

There, you will probably enjoy to swim in the morning. You might as well decide to laze on the beach in the afternoon, cooled by the balmy breeze under the shade of the coastline trees. Surely you will enjoy then to go for a walk along the shore, enjoying the peace, the silence and the beauties of the island, contemplating the enchanting colors of the scenery at the end of the afternoon.

Our three pavilions and each private Thai-style sala are spacious, airy and filled with with antique furniture and all amenities for your comfort. They open directly onto a lush tropical garden planted with many native species of trees, palms and flowers, orchids.

Close to the sea, a natural swimming pool of smooth shape offers its fresh and clear water. Combined, Koyao Bay Pavilions offers a rare and environmentally sensitive ensemble: Discreet, smart, integrated building that focuses on fitting in to natural surroundings, offering guests a true taste of tropical luxury.

PAVILION SUITE: one main unit and a separate garden living room (Thai Sala). Total area 120 square meters.
~ Fully equipped bedroom, king size bed, antique furniture, day bed, dressing room (air condition units upon request) ~ Exterior living room with private breakfast corner ~ Ambiance lighting ~ Spacious bathroom and exterior bathroom with hot/cold shower ~ TV with DVD player and choice of home movies. Sound System. ~ Sea-view and direct access to the beach and gardens ~ Telephone and fax line ~ Refrigerator, mini-bar, coffee/tea dispenser ~ Electronic safe-box.

The design of the pavilions is inspired by traditional architecture throughout South East Asia: thatched and wooden roof structure in order to allow the breeze to pass through on balmy nights, wood flooring throughout, dark tropical woods, and naturally tinted lime plasters providing a range of smooth ocres and yellows...

Privacy is of course a major concern: each pavilion is secluded from the others. Trees, palms and flowers are carefully planted to provide total privacy and quiet.

In the back of the property, our rice paddies extend up to the hills surrounding the valley.

Behind the villas is the clubhouse (dining and cocktail lounge) overlooking our rice fields, and with a view to inland mountains and forests. Green and fresh, soothing on the eyes and relaxation for the mind.

It is the place to meet with friends, other guests and our staff and guides. Here you will receive all the information you need about the resort and the island. You will find there books & maps to highlight your next day excursion program as well as movies and slideshows giving insights of places to be visited.

Our staff are always available to help you with anything you need to know, to arrange for or to order. Don?t worry, we take care of it all. Just tell us what you want - a day trip, a barbecue, special meals - and we will arrange it for you.

Afternoon tea (local cookies, rice and banana cakes) is served at the clubhouse and breakfast and meals will be served in your own sala if you wish, or at the restaurant. Cocktails and fruit are served by the swimming pool or on the beach.

Daily massage (2 hours) is included in room rate: please appoint our masseur/masseuse at your convenience.

Computers, ADSL Internet and picture processing are at one?s disposal. At the end of the day, please join us at the cocktail lounge around a glass. We will display the pictures you shot during the day on a wide screen TV and enjoy a chat together.

Koyao Bay Pavilions provides an exclusive and attentive service with smiles, lot of smiles. The staff at Koh Yao Bay Pavilions is mainly made up of local residents. They will naturally go out of their way to welcome you to their island so you can be sure of a warm reception here. The management at the resort is European and Thai. English, French, Spanish, Italian and Malaysian languages are spoken.

Many activities and excursions are available from the reception desk (see details). Various qualified staff are available on request to lead you around the island?s botanical treasures and cultural life. For your convenience we also provide transportation on and around Koh Yao Noi, particularly catering to transfers between Phuket and Krabi or Ao Nang Beach. Book and movie library at one?s disposal.

Despite some billboards recently installed on the island, Koh Yao Noi remains a beautiful island, where most people still believe that the island should be preserved from human degradation.

Koh Yao Noi is one of the larger islands in Phang Nga Bay, an archipelago of 44 islands. It is easily accessible from both Phuket and Krabi Provinces and sports some of the most beautiful sea scenery in South East Asia.

Sea Gypsies (Moken people) where inhabiting the Bay before anybody else, except maybe other nomadic people like forest hunters and collectors (Sakai, Negritos).

The 3,500 or so inhabitants of Koh Yao Noi are thought to be recent migrants from the Malay Peninsula (Satun, Trang).

The Mon population, linguistically and culturally belonging to the Khmer ethnolinguistic group, did settled in peninsular Thailand since ever, ruling maritime states like the one of Ligor (Nakhon Sri Thamarat). They melt continuously with Southern migrants from Malaysia and with Northen rulers (Thai), over centuries of commercial exchanges and political conflicts.

Most probably the Mon stock remains prevalent for most of the people living nowadays in Southern Thailand, includoing people of Koh Yao.

Numerous cave paintings hidden in the many islands of the bay, extending from 2000 years ago to last century, attest the influence of distinct communities in the emergence of a mixed origin population, living now in the provinces of Phang Nga, Phuket, Krabi and Satun.

The most recent migrations (17th-18th century) from Satun and Trang to Koh Yao Yai and Koh Yao Noi is attested by the fact that the particular dialect spoken on the island still bear obvious Malaysian lexical traces, particularely regarding toponyms and vernacular names of the flora species.

The main industries on the island are fishing and rubber planting. A little rice farming and some fruit, palm and coconut plantations are evident. Boat building and farming techniques here have been passed from father to son and, while some of the youngsters leave Koh Yao to seek the bright lights of Phuket, most return to their tight knit community.

The island covers about 50 square kilometers and has approximately 18 kilometers of concrete and dirt road around it. Great for bicycling and walking. It is mountainous in the centre and has beaches to either side. The East side has beaches suitable for swimming and snorkeling and the West is a picturesque blend of rice flats and mangrove trees.

Being one of the biggest islands in the Phang Nga Bay archipelago, Koh Yao Noi is home to a hospital, several schools and a post office. 24 hour electricity supply, Internet access, mobile telephone connection and Automatic Teller Machine are available.

Exploring through the dark cave have to be done both on foot and by boat since some parts of the cave are always flooded.
