Death of Sam Veasna It is with great sadness that we have to report the death, at age 31, of Sam Veasna, Head of the Provincial Wildlife Department in Siem Reap Province, Cambodia. Veasna contracted cerebral malaria during recent fieldwork. Veasna was a major force for conservation in Cambodia. For instance, he was responsible for the declaration of the Sarus Cranes reserve at Ang Trapeang Thmor. He discovered significant populations of both Bengal Florican and White-shouldered Ibis in Kompong Thom Province, just north of the Tonle Sap Great Lake. He was planning to carry out further work on both these species, particularly the floricans in this coming dry season, as his work indicated that they are suffering heavy levels of exploitation from hunting. His proposal to do this work was awarded the 1999 OBC-WildWings Conservation Awareness Award just prior to his death. At the recent AGM the Club confirmed that the award would still be made posthumously to honour him, his name and work. The project will continue with Veasna's counterpart staff from the Kompong Thom Provincial Wildlife Department. In his memory two funds are planned, firstly an endowment to support his wife and children and secondly the Sam Veasna Foundation which would support Cambodians carrying out conservation activities. คำแนะนำ :	I don't sure these projects have got the budget from Kambodia goverment or not. But I think we should help them that we can. At least the environment problems in Kambodia can have the effects to Thailand.
